Homework: You can choose any monologue in "GMSL" ("Good Masters, Sweet Ladies"). Write down the adversity and the theme of the monologue.
Wednesday - This is an asynchronous day, not a day off. Please fill in the attendance form. You will be responsible for knowing the material that is outlined in today's lesson. You will listen to a reading of the monologue that was introduced yesterday and then fill out a graphic organizer that shows the different techniques writers use. Remember, the work you do today will either keep your participation grade the same (can't go higher than 100%), raise it or lower it by 10 points. You will be expected to complete the work before or during your scheduled class time. Any work submitted after your class time will be considered late and 10 points will be deducted from your participation grade.
Thursday - After reviewing your assignment, from yesterday, we will do a Pear Deck lesson and do a reading of "Hugo, the Lord's Nephew." During this reading we will focus on flow and gist and discuss the text.
Classwork/Homework: Remember that graphic organizer I told you you would have to get comfortable with? Well tonight will be your first test (not a graded test) to see how well you can fill out this graphic organizer. You will do a 3rd reading of the monologue and then complete the graphic organizer showing me the adversity, the groups the adversity effects, evidence to support your adversity and if we still have this adversity today. Then you will have to tell me the theme of the monologue.
Friday - Another Pear Deck day along with a homework check and new monologue reading. In order to really drive this theme skill home, we will work together and that will leave you with no homework for the weekend.
Week of November 23, 2020 - Asynchronous Days - Please remember to complete the attendance form for each day.

Tuesday - So I have just about graded all of the Summary assessments and we definitely need to go over them. It appears to me that some basic skills were missed before writing your summary. Your current grade will stand, but is only a minor grade. The next time you have an assessment on writing a summary, it will be an intermediate grade and by the end of the year you will be a pro and your summary grade will count as a major grade. I recommend going back over the slides from November 9th before today's lesson.
Classwork/Homework: Yes, you will have a simple assignment to complete. This is basically a reflection page that will help you determine what you did well and where you need to improve. This is the first step in going from good to better to best!

Week of November 30, 2020
I hope everyone had a great and relaxing Thanksgiving. I'm excited about our next book, "Good Masters, Sweet Ladies" and looking forward to sharing it with you. Throughout this novel we will be reading many of the monologues together. We will continue to focus on adversities, summarizing and learning about themes. Please work hard on keeping up with your work and submitting it on time.
Monday - Today will be dedicated to just learning what a theme is. We will define it, look at examples and practice finding the them in a text. We will also listen to songs to hear the themes the songwriter wants us to hear.
Classwork: Find a theme in one of your favorite songs. Write a few of the lyrics that represent the theme and be ready to share in tomorrows lesson.
Homework: Use the graphic organizer and fill in the themes from two short passages.
Tuesday - Introduction to "Good Masters, Sweet Ladies." I think you will really like the video of students performing some of the monologues from the book. We will go over how to read a monologue and fill in a graphic organizer that you will have to get very comfortable with. This is a graphic organizer that you will use throughout the unit, so come to class ready to participate and take notes. Since we will do classwork together be prepared to stay on with me for the entire class period. Trust me, we'll have a good time. The 1st monologue we will read is pretty amusing.

Monday - Assessment Day that pulls together all you've learned about life in the Middle Ages. - Must be completed by 8pm this evening.
